Jordan Picks Up Two

Jordan almost single handedly brought Pittsburgh back from a 3-0 deficit on Thursday night, but in the end, his two goals were not enough as the Flyers avoided being swept by picking up the 4-2 victory.

With his club trailing 3-0 in the third period, Jordan got the Pens on the board with a great effort from behind the net. With a loose puck on the side of the net, Jordan was able to use his long reach to tuck the puck into the net. He later fired home a wicked one-timer from the slot to make the score 3-2.

Jordan now has five goals in the playoffs, as his team is just one win away from the Stanley Cup Finals. It's been an emotional week for Jordan and his family as they all returned home to Thunder Bay for the funeral of his late grandfather. After the short trip home, Jordan was able to rejoin his teammates and put up his best playoff performance of his career.

You can be sure he'll be looking to do the same on Sunday in Game 5, only this time he hopes the Pens will come away with the win and a ticket to the Finals.

Eric Lights It Up

May 12, 2008 2:50 PM | Filed under: Staal News and Updates

Even though his Hurricanes season came to an end much sooner than he would have liked, Eric is not just sitting back waiting for training camp.

Eric is currently playing with Team Canada at the 2008 IIHF World Championships and he had a game the other day that he will certainly rememeber for a long time. Eric scored an incredible four goals during Team Canada's 10-1 win over Germany. It's the most goals scored in a game by a member of Team Canada since Eric Lindros scored five back in 1993. The goals were the first for Eric in this year's tournament. "Obviously you want to help out as much as you can," said Staal. "I felt like I was working hard and getting to those areas but just not getting enough wood on it. It was just a matter of time."

Eric and Team Canada are currently undefeated as they have won their first five games of the tournament. They play Finland today as they make their way towards the quarterfinals. I'll be sure to check back in and let you know how Eric and the team is doing.

One Staal Sent Home

May 5, 2008 10:24 AM | Filed under: Staal News and Updates

Jordan and the Penguins ended Marc's season earlier than he would have liked on Sunday. Marc and the Rangers season ended yesterday when they lost 3-2 in overtime in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semi-finals.

This year was Marc's rookie season and he certainly made a name for himself and let the league know that he is going to be around for a long time. He finished the regular season by playing in 80 games and averaged over 18 minutes of ice time. He scored two goals and had eight assists and finished with a plus 2 rating.

In the playoffs though, his playing time increased as he averaged over 22 minutes per game. He had the game winning goal against New Jersey in Game 4 of the quarterfinals, and finished the playoffs with a plus 4 rating. Along with the numbers, he was not afraid to be a physical force and throw his weight around.

With Marc's season ending, Jordan is the only Staal brother who is still playing. He and the Penguins will being the Eastern Conference Finals on Friday when they host the cross-state rivals Philadelphia Flyers.
