After spending 11 years in Vancouver, Markus Naslund joined the New York Rangers this offseason looking to help lead the blueshirts to another Stanley Cup.
In the clubs first game of the season and the league opener, Naslund scored the first goal of the NHL season, when he and the Rangers took on the Tampa Bay Lightning in Prague, Czech Republic. "It was a great atmosphere, the fans were really into it," Naslund said. "It was fun."
Naslund fired a wrist shot home from the right faceoff circle to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. New York ended up winning the game 2-1.
"It was nice to have a win here," Naslund said. "We controlled the game and we deserved to win."
Naslund and the Rangers swept the two game series in Prague and will now host the Chicago Blackhawks back in Madison Square Garden on Friday night.
